Tea Time with a Kiltmaker

From the heritage and traditions to current culture, this 3 hour seminar provides the opportunity to discuss all things kilt. Our master Kiltmaker and her team will open the world of tartan in a way that only a master of the trade can.  Add to the rich and dynamic discussions by bringing your favourite tartan or kilts. There is always time to assess the condition of a tired kilt.  Free to organizations in the City of Ottawa 

Alterations, Care & Repair

During this 6 hour hands on workshop, our Master Kiltmaker and her team guide discussions of the 'right' method to measure for a kilt and identify the challenges associated with body types. Using your kilt, we will guide you through the process of how to assess a kilt for adjustment or repair, including when to recommend an updated kilt. You will have the confidence to move straps, buckles and adjust the hem.

Max 20 participants - $200 / person. 

Learn to Pleat

Our 6 hour hands on workshop is designed to demonstrate the basic skills required to sew like a bespoke kiltmaker. Our Master Kiltmaker and her team provide all the materials for you to get stuck into invisible stitching and folding traditional pleats. You will get an understanding of some of the terms used by the trade and what it takes to create a family heirloom that can last the test of time.  Max 20 participants - $150 / person 

Sash Crash Course

Our 6 hour hands on workshop is for those who have tartan that is too big to use for a quilt, but too small for a kilt. The discussions on tartan, Celtic dress and braiding is centred on providing you all the skills you need to create your own traditional tartan heirloom. We will provide all the materials for you to make a 30 x 150 cm (12" x 60") tartan sash.

Max 20 participants - $150 / person

All of our sessions are low energy, lots of sitting, but will require some manual dexterity and hand strength.  Meals and snacks are not provided. Beverage availability on site is not guaranteed.  For details and next session offerings please contact us.
